Ventura County Electrician Pros is a no-cost referral service for homeowners across Ventura County, from Oxnard and Ventura to Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, and the Ojai Valley. You tell us what you need, and we pass your request to one independent local electrician who serves your area. We don't do electrical work ourselves, and there's nothing to pay us.

Danger signs come first. If you see sparks, smoke, or flames, or smell burning plastic or a hot, electrical odor, get everyone out of the house and call 911 from outside. If a power line is down, stay far away from it and anything it touches, keep others away, and call 911 and SCE. Never touch a downed line or try to move it. This site does not give do-it-yourself electrical instructions beyond resetting a tripped breaker.

What electrical work can you help with?

Most requests fall into a few groups: capacity for new loads (panel upgrades and EV chargers), something that stopped working (troubleshooting and outages), older homes (rewiring and safety inspections), projects (lighting and ADU and remodel wiring), and staying powered through outages (generators and backup power).

What's safe to do before an electrician arrives?

  • Check whether neighbors also lost power. If so, it's likely an outage; check SCE's outage information.
  • Reset a tripped breaker once. If it trips again, leave it off.
  • Unplug sensitive electronics during outages.
  • Stop using any outlet or switch that's warm, buzzing, or discolored.

That's as far as we go. Leave panel covers, outlets, and wiring to a qualified electrician.

What's local about electrical work in Ventura County?

  • Housing from every era. Early 1900s homes in Ventura, Santa Paula, Fillmore, and Ojai; postwar and 1960s to 1980s tracts in Oxnard, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, and Simi Valley; and newer homes in Moorpark and master-planned communities.
  • Wildfire and power shutoffs. SCE may turn off power in high fire-risk areas during dangerous winds, which drives interest in safe backup power.
  • Salt air on the coast, which corrodes outdoor electrical equipment.
  • Electrification, with more EV chargers, heat pumps, induction cooking, solar, and batteries.
  • Fire rebuilds after the Thomas, Woolsey, and Mountain fires.
  • Permits from the city for incorporated areas and the County of Ventura for unincorporated communities.

Why use a referral service?

  • One request, one electrician. Your details go to one independent local pro, not a list of companies.
  • Clear, safety-first information so you know what to ask.
  • No obligation. Get an estimate and decide.

Before you hire anyone

Check the contractor's license at cslb.ca.gov. Electrical contractors in California hold a C-10 license, and people doing electrical work for them generally must be state-certified electricians. Ask for proof of liability insurance and workers' compensation, get a written estimate, and confirm who pulls the permit. California generally limits home improvement down payments to 10% of the contract price or $1,000, whichever is less.

What affects the cost?

We don't publish prices because they vary widely. Cost depends on the scope, the panel and wiring you have now, distances and access, permit and inspection requirements, utility coordination, and the equipment you choose. Ask for a written estimate before work starts.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ventura County Electrician Pros an electrical contractor?

No. We're a no-cost referral service that connects homeowners with independent local electricians. We don't do the work, and the electrician you hire is responsible for its license, insurance, permits, and work.

What should I do if I see sparks or smell burning?

Get everyone out of the house and call 911 from outside. Don't try to find the source yourself.

What should I do about a downed power line?

Stay far away from it and anything it touches, keep others away, and call 911 and SCE. Never touch or move it.

A breaker keeps tripping. What should I do?

Reset it once. If it trips again, leave it off and call an electrician. A breaker that keeps tripping is warning you about an overload or fault.

Do you cover the whole county?

Yes. We take requests from all ten cities in Ventura County and many unincorporated communities, including Oak Park, Somis, Santa Rosa Valley, Lake Sherwood, Bell Canyon, Piru, and the Ojai Valley communities.

Will more than one electrician contact me?

No. We send your request to one independent local electrician who covers your area.

Ready to get started?

Send one short request and one independent local pro will follow up with next steps and an estimate.
